What’s an Entrepreneurial Management Consultant?

What is Entrepreneurial Management Consultancy? To me, it is the final result of a concept that has been incubating in my brain for over 10 years. Let me explain. I have a Bachelor of Commerce degree with a major in Entrepreneurial Management. While in school I wrote freelance business plans for local entrepreneurs to help me pay for textbooks. After graduating from university, I fell into IT project management and eventually, went into business for myself as an independent IT Project Management Consultant. Throughout those years I completed dozens of projects of varying sizes and complexity, and wrote a few business plans on the side. After receiving my Project Management Professional (PMP) certification I realized that the tools and techniques I had learned were based on a virtually bulletproof framework which ensured projects were delivered successfully and I thought:

“Wouldn’t it be amazing if this type of framework was available for Entrepreneurs?”

And that’s where it all began.

By applying the project management methodology to entrepreneurship, I’ve developed a strategy to help Entrepreneurs:

  • Identify and assess their business venture idea
  • Develop their business plan
  • Help them plan the launch of their business
  • Once launched, review and update the product/service mix and everything in between to optimize their business’s performance
  • Help them manage enhancement/optimization projects
  • When the time is right, help them transition out of their venture, and hopefully onto their next one!

Since launching the Entrepreneurial Consultancy services of Hooligan Consulting, I’ve worked with half a dozen Entrepreneurs take their ventures from idea to execution using my project-management-turned-entrepreneurial-management methodology. The methodology follows a similar process to the PMP framework but I’ve adapted it for entrepreneurs. In the PMP framework, projects follow the below 5 stages:

Initiation –> Planning –> Execution –> Monitoring & Controlling –> Closing

In my Entrepreneurial Management process, a business will follow the below stages:

Idea –> Plan –> Launch –> Optimize –> Exit

Within each stage, we assess the scope, human resources, schedule, cost/financial/budget, communications, marketing, procurement, risk and the integration of all these components within your business strategy.

It’s a framework that has worked for my clients to assess, plan and launch their businesses successfully. It ensures no stone gets left unturned, and you have a plan for everything that you do before you do it. Starting a new business is an exciting and exhilarating adventure, but comes with an intense amount of stress, anxiety and constant questioning of “am I doing the right thing?”. Planning and having a coach work with you along the way not only ensures you’ve got your bases covered, but also gives you an unbiased third party opinion, shoulder to cry on, and motivator who has your best interests at heart. And as a fellow Entrepreneur, I know what it’s like.

If you’ve been thinking about becoming your own boss, but don’t know where to start or are scared of what that will entail, I invite you to contact me for a free consultation. You don’t have anything to lose, and everything to gain.
